Frequently Asked
Questions

Straight answers to real questions — no spin, no fine print. Just what you need to know before booking an aerial tour on Oahu.

Helicopters fly higher (typically 2,000 feet) and cover more ground in less time, making them ideal for seeing all of Oahu's highlights in one flight. Gyroplanes fly lower (1,000 feet) with an open cockpit, giving you a more intimate, wind-in-your-face experience — it feels less like a tour and more like actually flying. Both offer incredible views, just different perspectives.

A gyroplane (also called an autogyro) is a light aircraft with an open cockpit and an unpowered rotor on top. Unlike a helicopter, the rotor spins freely from airflow rather than being engine-driven, which makes the ride exceptionally smooth and stable. You sit in the rear seat with your pilot in front of you — nothing but a small windshield between you and the sky. Gyroplanes fly lower than helicopters (around 1,000 feet), giving you a more intimate view of coastline, reef formations, and marine life.

Yes. All operators we partner with are FAA-certified with rigorous safety standards and impeccable safety records. You'll receive a full safety briefing before every flight and wear a secure harness system throughout.

Closed-toe shoes are required. Wear sunglasses (secured with a strap), light layers, and avoid loose clothing. No hats, purses, or bags allowed in the aircraft. Phone cases with wrist straps are required — or you can rent one on-site.

Early morning flights (before 10am) offer the calmest air and best lighting for photos. Golden hour flights (late afternoon) give you dramatic lighting and warmer colors. Midday flights are perfectly fine but may have slightly more turbulence from thermals.

Yes, children ages 10 and up can fly on helicopter tours. Children 10–14 must sit next to a responsible adult. Minimum age for gyroplane flights is 8 years old.

Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe for flying, your tour will be rescheduled at no extra charge. Light rain alone typically doesn't cancel flights — and flying through a rain shower often means rainbows. You'll be contacted directly if rescheduling is needed.

Full refund if cancelled 48+ hours before your scheduled flight. Within 48 hours, you may be charged up to 100% of the booking price. We always recommend booking early in your trip so you have flexibility to reschedule if needed.

For helicopter tours: passengers over 250 lbs may incur a surcharge, and those over 300 lbs may need to purchase an additional seat. First Class (front) seats have a 340 lb combined weight limit for both passengers. Gyroplane flights have a 250 lb passenger weight limit.
